History Of BWRA

The British Wheelchair Racing Association was formed in 1989 by athletes who wished to promote wheelchair racing for all in Great Britain.  At the present moment we have 116 members from all over the British Isles.

The Association is run by the athletes themselves who give up time to promote the sport in this country.  Since the Association formed we have developed a road racing grand prix and our own National Track Championships.

The main part of the Association is the newsletter, which is an integral part in helping us to reach all our members, although we are now developing a website (as you may have noticed!).

What can the BWRA do for you?

The BWRA operates on many levels – it helps athletes who want to take part in racing for fun or if you are aiming to be an elite athlete and represent Great Britain.

We organise many different competitions including the Road Racing Grand Prix which consists of upwards of ten races throughout the season.  Points are awarded to athletes as they cross the line and the athlete with the most points at the end of the season wins!

The National Track Championships are held once a year, usually around the beginning of May.

The Newsletter lets member’s know what’s going on in the racing world both nationally and internationally.  It’s gives race reports, National records, race tips, and entry forms for upcoming events.  The only way to receive the newsletter is to become a member, click here to find out how.
