Redcar
10mile
What has now become a traditional
starter to the road racing season, the Redcar 10mile race showed that winter had
not yet ended. Whilst not very
cold, the wind picked up during the weekend and turned towards the north-West,
which meant i) a serious headwind along the coast section, and ii) about 2
inches depth of sand partly covering a 50m section of the road - which most
people went around the outside of but some decided to plough straight through(!)
Picking up from where he left off last year, Jason Gill outsprinted Brian
Alldis in the snail’s pace sprint finish into the headwind, with a similar
sprint for 3rd/4th place between Jason Richards and Ian
Thompson. Once the sand has been
cleaned out of any orifice which had been left open to the elements, the trips
home where heartened…..at least it didn’t snow!
